If the task is more complicated than area calculation at oil spillage or estimation of burnt wood, one may be sure that photo decoding will be mostly done manually.

Input of relief data (vectorizing of contours, symbols of stones, relief elements, and elevation data input) takes 2 - 2.5 hours per one sheet of a topographic 1: 50000 map

Input of vegetation data (vectorizing of point symbols and dotted lines of vegetation types’ boundaries, polygon assembling and input of their attributes) takes 3 – 3.5 hours per one sheet of a topographic 1:50 000 map.

Input of hydrographic data (swamp polygons, other polygonal and linear hydrographic objects, point objects and their characteristics) takes 3 – 3.5 hours per one sheet of a topographic 1:50 000 map.

Not all the images you have to vectorize are clean and neat. Far from it! Besides, line crossing at sharp angle creates ambiguity for a tracing tool even in the best ones.

Point objects writing and attribution is a tedious process, usually performed manually. However, this process can be greatly accelerated. As usual with the "divide and conquer" method.

Construction of 3D-terrain model - a frequent problem. As a rule, the starting materials are the topological map in one form or another. Getting out of these materials mathematical basis for building 3D-models is quite a laborious task. Fortunately, most of the work can be automated using Easy Trace Pro.

Until recently, the dotted lines in Easy Trace Pro can only be vectorized in manual or semiautomatic mode. However, they are quite amenable to automated digitization.
